Sunday Salon
Happy August, everyone! I have just started Ingrid Winterbach's To Hell with Cronjé, a South African novel from Open Letter Press. The original language is Afrikaans, a unique form of Dutch that evolved in South Africa and Namibia. It also borrows from Malay, Portuguese, and the Bantu and Khoisan languages.
This week was an eventful one. In addition to changing my background and header, I posted on the Beirut39 anthology, Kenzaburo Ōe's Rouse Up O Young Men of the New Age! (for my bloggy book club), and a Book We Shall Never Speak of Again for the Horrible Dare Challenge. The mad review for the Nameless Horror also suffered invasion by a pair of fictional Marxists intent on making their displeasure known. Alas, one fell to the Dark Side.
On the lighter side of things, I have a job interview on Tuesday! For a library assistant position! Wish me luck!
And now for my August reading stats:
Rouse Up O Young Men of the New Age!
Beirut39: New Writings from the Arab World
The Nameless Horror
Petals of Blood
Klausen was abandoned less than halfway and passed on to Sandra.
The first week of July was preoccupied with the Inferno part of the Dante Read-Along, which I broke down into four posts. So all in all, that's only four novels read this month (one of which was an unspeakable atrocity) for a total of 1,282 pages. In terms of book quantity, I'm afraid August may not be any better. I should be occupied with the 640-page behemoth that is I Hotel.
And lastly, your weekly link round-up:
American Apparel's Bankruptcy Is Inevitable

Fingers crossed for your interview. No better job in the world! (imvho!)
Sending good wishes your way for that interview. No better place than a library although I have to warn you that the questions posed to a librarian are the stuff of a whole other blog. Occasionally unbelievable!
Whoa, good luck on your interview! Soon I'll be the only book-blogger out there who DOESN'T work in a library. :-)
Good luck, E.L. Fay! And once you land that job, tell Emily to get with the (library employee/blogger) program already for crying out loud!
Good luck! They'd be daft not to take you!
Good luck on your job interview!
Thanks for the good wishes everyone!
