Sunday Salon

The Sunday Salon.com

First off, I would like to thank everyone who wished me luck on my NEW JOB post! I'm only moving a couple hours away but it's so great to finally be out of my parents' house. It's an hourly salary but living there is cheap, and I should be able to find a great place in the really artsy, bohemian, student-oriented area with all the great coffee shops and vintage architecture.

Still, cash may be a bit tight so I've decided to try and make a few extra dollars off this blog. You may notice this image appearing at the end of some of my new posts:

In my last Sunday Salon I mentioned that I had joined IndieBound.org's affiliate program. So if you would like to purchase a book you see mentioned on this blog, please accept my humble request to click the link and support an independent bookstore. I know, I know, I sound like a sell-out but please consider it. Plus, our local bookstore just closed after sixteen years in business so I really do want to promote indies. (For reviews of books received from publishers, authors, etc I just plan on doing a text link with the title.)

As for current reading plans, your eyes do not deceive you: I am indeed in the middle of Glenn Beck's novel The Christmas Sweater. IT IS STRICTLY FOR THE HORRIBLE DARE CHALLENGE! Although honestly, I'm finding it too boring to be truly Horrible. While it's entirely possible The Christmas Sweater was ghostwritten (like The Nameless Horror doubtlessly was) I think the prose is too pedestrian to be the work of a professional author. And according to the negative Amazon reviewers, there are some really hackneyed plot devices coming up.

Glenn Beck has also written a thriller, by the way. So if you would like to brave Mr. Beck but can't tolerate Beck + sentimental Christmas story . . . uh, go for it, I guess.

Happy Sunday!

P.S. - Check out this week's Purgatorio posts! I already loved Inferno and am now a confirmed Dante fangirl.

And now for your weekly link round-up:

Yay for you and the new job and the big move! And it will all work out very well of course. Feeling so happy for you until I get to the part about that terrible book. You are a stronger woman than I!

I got myself into this challenge so don't feel too bad. It was actually either Glenn Beck or Danielle Steele, and Beck seemed like the less masochistic choice. But Your Mileage May Vary, as they say on TV Tropes.

Oh, and BTW, your blog isn't letting me comment! Even after I enter all my information (name, email, URL) I still have a ghost "Post" button. I have cookies enabled for your blog so I don't think that's it. Just so you don't think I've been neglecting you!

So happy things are falling into place for you with the new job.

I read Beck's the Christmas Sweater before I realized what an idiot he is. No way would I read another book by him.
