Sunday Salon + Job/Moving Update

The Sunday Salon.com

Happy Sunday everyone! It's been pouring rain since before I woke up at 8 and doesn't show signs of letting up anytime soon. But that's fine with me. I've got some materials I need to read for my new job.

I'm also taking the time to pack. I'll be moving out in exactly one week and I've finally secured an apartment! This isn't the same one I mentioned last time. It's owned by the same people and located down the street a few houses, but it's $60 cheaper! It's a studio with a separate kitchen in a Victorian-era mansion with a gorgeous foyer and beautiful old woodwork. The previous tenant wanted to move in with her boyfriend but still had a one-year lease. If she wanted to leave she had to find someone else to take over, so they were hurrying to fill it. There's soot all over the walls because she liked to burn candles and incense but the landlord promised it would be cleaned up and repainted immediately.

As for packing and moving, I've made the difficult decision to leave behind an entire bookcase full of books, mostly history texts from college, a few poetry and plays, and nearly all of my mass-market paperbacks, including my complete Anne Rice and Faye Kellerman collections. It's been awhile since I've counted the number of volumes in my library but it's easily 300. But because books are so heavy they take up too many boxes; plus, I'm not sure I have room enough for two bookcases. (The apartment has some built-in shelves too.) But I figure it's only two hours away so I can easily move the books and bookshelf later.

With all that's been happening I'm afraid I didn't get much done this week. I did a post for the Horrible Dare Challenge that ended up being way bitchier than I intended. It's just that . . . I hate Glenn Beck and that book was truly horrible with the most unlikeable protagonist I have ever encountered. I hope to get Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver read and posted on this week before I leave. Right now I'm also reading Karen Tei Yamashita's I Hotel for The Front Table. For 640 pages it sure is going by quickly.

Not sure I'll be able to do a Sunday Salon next week but we'll see how things turn out.

An apt in a Victorian mansion sounds just wonderful! They sound like good landlords too. You sound so excited - it's hard not to feel excited right along with you!

The new apartment sounds lovely! I am just amazed that you read the Glen Beck book, I'm sure I would have thrown it out the window. Have a good week preparing for you move!

Your apartment sounds wonderful. Good luck packing and moving. Like Gavin, I'm amazed you read Glenn Beck's book... I couldn't even come up with a comment for that one, lol!

YAY, you found an apartment. I hate apartment hunting; I am vicariously relieved on your behalf.

And don't worry about your catty review - that book sounds truly atrocious!

JoAnn: I almost couldn't come up with a whole review for it, that's how awful it was.

Amy: Actually, I'm thinking now I'll probably bring both bookcases and use the built-in shelves for photos, trinkets, etc.

Emily: I actually liked apartment-hunting. It's prime renting season right now so there were lots of great places to see.

I hope you are very happy in your new place. (As for the Glenn Beck book, had that crossed my path it would have went out with the garbage...that is one PSYCHO DUDE!
