Sunday Salon

The Sunday Salon.com

This week was certainly an eventful one! It was Book Blogger Appreciation Week AND my blogiversary was yesterday! AWESOME.

I am almost done with Résistance: A Woman's Struggle and Defiance in Occupied France by Agnès Humbert. It is the first book I have ever won from LibraryThing's Early Reviews giveaway - after almost a YEAR of entering! To all the losers out there: KEEP TRYING! Never give up! The books will come to you!

According to some bloggers, though, the Early Reviews program is, like, one of their main sources of free books. How long have you folks been participating? Maybe after this one I'll see more results, now that I'm sort of on the radar.

I will be starting Louis Menand's American Studies tomorrow. Most of my reading is actually done during my lunchbreak at work.

I also gotta finish 2666 and get that post out, and then get to ordering the first volume of the Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy for the new read-along.

So that's me for this week.

I started reading the Part About Archimboldi yesterday and it's so different! I can't wait to hear what everyone thinks, for real. I just got my copy of "Kristin Lavransdatter" in the mail and it's so pretty, I just want to start reading it now.

Have a good week!

Oh, you guys make me want to go pick up part five but I know that time will not permit until next weekend. Grrr. And then on to Kristin. My copy arrived this week, and despite some initial reservations (I signed on for my fellow 2666 readers with whom I would read comic books if that was what was on board), I am really excited now. Happy reading!

And I just discovered that this Early reviewers program does not exactly work very well with Canada... None of the interesting books are available here! as if it were the other side of the world!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Bolano...

Happy blogiversary!! I'm still waiting for my Kristin books.. maybe they'll arrive tomorrow! So excited!

Are you getting the black Penguins? Most of the others have the omnibus. No matter how pretty the omnibus, I got the 3-volume set, as I have The Tale of Genji Deluxe Penguin in 1000+ pages and I can hardly carry it!

I agree with Julie.. I stopped asking books from the Early reviewers because most of the books I liked were only available in the U.S. Also, you never win if you don't have reviews already posted in Librarything. Hooray for your win, though!! Hope they keep coming!!

I'll start Archimboldi next week.

RR: Archimboldi is kinda crazy, isn't it? It's like three more novels crammed into one and they all bleed into each other. It's like peeling the layers of an onion.

Frances: I probably wouldn't have read Kristin either if it wasn't for this new read-along. But I've been hearing so many great things about it.

Julie: That must suck! I thought you could get Early Reviewer books in Europe too? Oh well, maybe with your traveling you will be in the US long enough to snag something!

Claire: I probably will get an omnibus just because my shelf space is limited. I have read a bit of Genji but a friend of mine took a whole class on it in college! I remember her freaking out because this guy was about to "rape the wrong woman" and she couldn't bear the, uh, mix-up.
